NeatPass
Case study

NeatPass

PDF to Apple Wallet, fully on-device

Airlines, gyms, and ticket shops send PDFs. Apple Wallet wants passes. NeatPass converts any PDF into a Wallet pass directly on the iPhone, with on-device AI and zero uploads.

I took it from idea to App Store entirely solo: product design, native Swift app, on-device ML pipeline, zero-knowledge pass signing, localization, and launch.

Apple validated the idea

At WWDC 2026 Apple added pass creation to Wallet in iOS 27, from a template or a live camera scan, but not from a PDF or screenshot. I shipped the harder part first, and built NeatPass to stay the more capable app.

Want this level of execution on your project?

The first call is free. You leave with an honest assessment, whether we work together or not.

What I do

Services built around your product

One engineer, the full stack. Pick what you need or combine them into an end-to-end build.

Web apps

Dashboards, customer portals, and marketing sites in React and TypeScript that load fast, rank well, and stay easy to extend.

iOS & Mac apps

Native apps for iPhone and Mac, from first screen to App Store launch. I built NeatPass end to end, including its on-device AI pipeline.

AI tools & automation

LLM features, agent workflows, and Python pipelines that cut hours of manual work. Built to run reliably, not just demo well.

Technical consulting

MVP scoping, architecture reviews, and a second opinion before you commit budget. I lead software at TUM.ai and have tutored hundreds of CS students.

The person behind the work

Who you'll be working with

Justin Lanfermann

I'm Justin Lanfermann, a software engineer from Munich. I study computer science at TUM in the top 8% of my cohort, lead software development at TUM.ai, and work in development and infrastructure at Westend61.

I shipped NeatPass solo, hold the CHECK24 GenDev stipend, and have tutored hundreds of CS students. Young, yes. That's exactly why everything on this page is public and verifiable.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Every project is different, so I price per project after a short scoping call. You get a clear estimate before any work begins, with no surprises.
From a focused MVP sprint to full product builds and longer retainers. Whether you need one feature or a whole app, we can shape the right fit.
Judge the work, not the birth year: a shipped App Store product with thousands of users and an Apple feature, public code on GitHub, and engineering roles at TUM.ai and Westend61. The free scoping call is the easiest way to check how I think.
Yes. I take on a limited number of freelance projects at a time so each one gets full focus. Reach out and I will share my current availability.
React, TypeScript, and Node on the web; native Swift for iOS and Apple Wallet; Python for AI, automation, and data work.
I don't disappear. Every package includes a post-launch support window, and for longer-term needs we can set up a monthly retainer.
Both. I am based in Munich and happy to meet local teams in person, and I work smoothly with remote and distributed teams across time zones.
Yes, fluently in both. Happy to communicate, document, and meet in whichever your team prefers.
